Let's Split the Difference
My husband has a very fast metabolism. If you have met him you know it's true. I believe my mother thinks I just don't feed him and when we are at their house she does her darndest to try and fatten him up. "Do you want a snack?" She asks. He answers no, however she pretends not to hear. "I've got chips, or buns or I could make you a sandwich." She also is sure to make his favorite foods, partially because she wants to make him happy and partially because she wants to make sure he eats more (even though this is never an issue). He eats, boy does he eat.
This is a little bit of a challenge for me. I struggle to find meals that will not fatten me up and will also work to keep him full and from wasting away. No matter the size of the meal it seems he is still hungry again a few hours later.
For our wedding I worked to loose weight and he attempted to put on some. In order to achieve this he did weights and drank protein shakes with high calories. I carefully watched what I ate and did a lot of cardio along with weights. On the day of our wedding I was the thinnest I've ever been and he was the heaviest. I still weighed 18 lbs more than him.
Now we have reached a point where I am again almost at my lowest weight (only a pound or two over) and he is around his natural weight, you know the one that your body always goes back to. When I came home from my parents house there was a big tub of high calorie protein shake on the counter. I knew he had been working to strengthen his problem knee and he has now decided that he will add this 900 calorie a shake drink to each day and see if he can put on any weight this month. In answer to this I have decided that I will see if I can push my body past this lowest weight that has never been breached. I will do this by increasing my focus on cardio again (I have been attempting to get in 3 hours a week), being more dedicated to the sit ups, crunches and leg lifts I have done sporadically as well as making sure I keep my lean muscle by using my Visalus protein shakes (90 calorie base as apposed to the 900 in my husbands).
So we'll see what this month will bring. I would LOVE if we were able to match weight, at least one time in my life I would think it would be fantastic to weigh less than my husband. I'm not sure if it is at all possible. Right now the difference is 30 lbs so to split the difference I would need to loose 15. That might be possible but I'm not sure if my husband is able to put on 15. With this being my goal I will need to work extra hard to find meals that will allow him to gain and me to loose. I see a lot of extra protein in our future and a focus on portion sizes for me.
Wish us luck!
