Mysterious Ways
Today is the 10 year anniversary of the day I met my husband. I thought it would be interesting to let people know how we met. I would say it's a rather unusual way for a christian couple to have met.
I was attending Conestoga College for Radio and Television Broadcasting and it was a rather wild bunch. One Friday night a few of us decided we were going to go out dancing at the Rev in Waterloo. Since I had a car I acted as chauffeur/DD a lot of the time. Also since we were mostly broke we always wanted to arrive anywhere before cover. After work I picked up Juli and Mark and headed back to my place to get ready. By this time I had to get ready very quickly and while I showered and did my makeup, Mark picked my outfit. I threw it on and we dashed up to the Rev just in time to get in for free. Just inside the door while everyone waited in line for the bank machine I noticed Dean, a friend from another year in our program. He was there with friends from high school celebrating one of their birthdays. I headed over with him to see where he was gathered with his friends and then went back to retrieve Juli and Mark. On our way over I said to Juli "Dean is here with some high school friends for one of their birthdays and he's really cute." When we got there Juli answered "He is cute. I want him." At this point an argument struck up about who had seen him first and we decided to arm wrestle for him. I'm left handed but was confident in my ability to win so I agreed to a right handed match. After one round and a rematch, both of which I won, Dean was informed that I was interested and we went about our night. Throughout the night I chatted (as much as you can in a loud club) and danced with Randall. At the end of the night I gave him a birthday hug and we headed out.
A few days later at school I asked Dean about his friend and told him how he could hook us up when he informed me that he had already given him my phone number. This is when panic struck in. I got really nervous about how crazy this was. After all, I had met this guy at a bar! How on earth was he supposed to have the same sorts of values and ideals as I did?
I believe it was that very same night that Randall called me for the first time. I was very surprised and excited that he had actually called me. He was working full time, lots of hours, and it was Thanksgiving the next weekend so we agreed to get together the week after.
It seems nether one of us is very good at picking interesting things to do so we decided we would watch a movie at my apartment (my roommates where there in the other room just in case). After the movie we went to Tim Horton's and sat for a LONG time chatting while I ripped my coffee cup to shreds. It was during that time talking that I discovered that by random chance (I prefer an act of God) this guy I had met at a bar actually did believe in God, was raised going to church and was a christian.
So that was 10 years ago and we have build a wonderful family and home together. Although I thought I was crazy to suggest Dean hook us up I'm very grateful that he did!
Happy Birthday Randall and happy 10 year Anniversary of the day we met!
