NO, MINE BLOG!

My son has now entered the terrible twos. I don't really have much experience with this since Trinity was a pretty good 2 year old. When she was entering that age people would say things to us like "Oh no! Here come the terrible twos." I would promptly tell them, "Two's not so bad. It was the first year with her that was hard." That is a very true statement for her but for my son I think it will be a different story.

He has, for a while now, already wanted to do everything for himself. Everything also does belong to him. Heading out the door for a walk he will often angrily tell his sister, "NO! MINE WALK!" No toy, no matter how girly, is safe either. A good portion of my day is now filled with fighting over toys, the seat they must both have, the pets, or just wanting to go outside.

It is interesting to see the assertion of personality at this age though. I mean I have known for a while that both of my kids were going to be stubborn and determined but even though the yelling and fighting can get a bit much sometimes it's still sort of nice to know that they are both not going to give up when there is something that they want. Even though it drives me crazy now that Alex screams and cries when I make him come inside after spending most of the day in the yard I am happy that he will love the outdoors and threw my headache from the repetitive noise of him banging on drums and guitars I am still glad that he has an appreciation of music and will one day be a creative and musical soul.

I'll leave you with a story of his determination from yesterday that shows how resourceful a 2 year old can be. I decided to go to the Library yesterday when Trinity was at school and headed to the garage while Alex sat in a bit of a stupor on the couch. I believed he was not far from falling asleep since he's been getting not quite enough lately. We were talking for a while in the garage then I left for the library. Randall went in the house to find Alex sitting on the couch with my camera and a glass of Iced tea. He had reached the camera off the counter and was trying to take pictures (he didn't manage to take any). The most amazing part was the Iced Tea. The cup he had picked had been on the table from his lunch and he would have had to have taken it down, gotten the gallon container of iced tea out of the fridge, opened the lid, poured the glass full, put the lid back on and put the container back in the fridge. There was no spilling, no drips and no evidence at all of him getting his own drink besides us knowing the glass had been empty and neither of us had filled it.

When kids want something, they will stop at nothing to get it. In most situations I think that's a good trait to hold onto.
