The Clothing Conundrum
I know women have a love hate relationship with shopping for cloths. On the rare occasion you find something that fits and makes you look presentable you are ecstatic however all to often a shopping trip ends with disappointment and sometimes depression. Of course we blame ourselves when we can't find something that's right. Why wouldn't we? You would think that clothing companies know what they are doing and make their product in appropriate sizes. This is why we are so devastated when after trying innumerable items we walk away empty handed.
I am in between sizes. The trendy clothing stores don't carry cloths that come close to fitting even in their largest size but the smallest items in plus size are the wrong shape and to large. I don't think this is as big a problem in the States but that is another matter.
Many years ago I worked at a clothing store. It was during that time I realized how serious the cloths shrinking epidemic has become. I'm sure it's gotten much worse since then. One of the girls I worked with tried on a shirt at another store that they were selling as a woman's size L. This store did not carry children's cloths. She thought it was fitting too small and looked at the label to discover that it said L 14-16. This is a CHILD'S size L!!! The really frightening thing is it wasn't much smaller than the woman's size. I think this is deplorable! It shows girls that they are not supposed to get any larger than a prepubescent girl. If they do they are fresh out of luck for finding trendy and cool cloths.
I have long thought about how I could do something about this problem. I just can't seem to come up with a way to fix it. I keep thinking that at some point the companies can't help but notice that the 2 size L shirt they send sell out immediately and the 18 XS sit around for a month before they put them on the clearance rack. It hasn't seem to help though. In fact I keep noticing smaller and smaller sizes. I do realize that there is some very tiny girls out there and sure they should be able to find cloths that fit as well but I don't thing they are the majority. The last I heard the average size for a woman was 13-14. If that is true then why is that the largest size most stores carry? I just don't understand!
When I worked in retail there were so many times young girls would come into the store trying to find the same cloths their friends had and we would have to send them away because we just couldn't help them. Many of them left in tears. I don't think this is right and I wish I could do something to change it.
