A Real Pain in the... Knee

Things were going so well! I was actually liking my running training and I was feeling really good about the progress I was making. Then disaster struck! OK, that's a little over dramatic but I have been brought to a grinding halt. I did my 5th training run about a week and a half ago and by the end my left knee was pretty soar. I sort of figured that I had just pushed it a bit to hard since I had upped my intervals to a minute and a half of both walking and jogging. Before I was just jogging for one minute. As the evening continued my knee got more and more soar and it took a bit of effort to go up and down stairs. So some good rest was in order. Since I was going to Jubilee (my Latasia conference, that was fabulous by the way) I had assumed my knee would heal up while I was gone and I would be good to go when I got back. This is certainly not the case. I'm still finding stairs a little difficult and by the end of the day I'm limping quite significantly. I've been icing it and taking Ibuprofen but there doesn't seem to be much improvement, if any. This is completely frustrating for me. I really miss the exercise and I'm not sure what this will mean for my goal of running in the Run for the Cure in October. I really was enjoying jogging but I don't know how to go about healing this injury and continuing without the threat of doing the same thing again.

This is also not helping my progress with getting into shape. I know my body isn't going to drop much actual weight unless I were to actually loose muscle mass which of course isn't my goal but this mean that what I will need to do is work on toning up and loosing inches. Without being able to do much of any type of exercise right now my efforts are mostly at a stand still where I was hoping to be building a bit of momentum. I have tried to so some research on the best ways of training to run, on picking the right shoes, and on the best ways to burn calories threw running and that has been disheartening as well. So much of the information out there contradicts what the next "expert" has to say! How am I to know who to believe? Maybe another trip to my Doctor is in order. I hope I am able to sort out a method that will work to get me back out on the road and running in no time. I never thought I would say this but I actually miss it!
